道常無名,樸雖小,天下莫能臣也,侯王若能守之,萬物將自賓。天地相合,以降甘露,民莫之令而自均。始制有名,名亦既有,夫亦將知止,知止,可以不殆,譬道之在天下,猶川谷之與江海。 |

Dao always falls in the world beyond knowledge. No one is sure what will happen to counter-act the unnatural development in society. |
pu sui xiao, tian xia |
Although the people of the lower class of society live a very humble life, they will not surrender and will be defiant. |
hou wang ruo neng shou zhi, wan wu jiang zi bin |
If the lords and the emperor change their mentality and return to holding fast to dao for their countries, all people will then behave. |
tian di xiang he, yi |
When the condition of the atmosphere is right, it will cause sweet dew to condense. |
min mo zhi ling er zi |
The condensed sweet dew will be evenly distributed disregarding any human manipulation. Equality is natural. |
shi zhi you ming |
Ever since the very early people established a socio-political structure for society, there had come titles and fame. |
ming yi ji you, fu yi |
Now you have already enjoyed your titles and fame. You should know where to stop. |
zhi zhi, ke yi bu dai |
When you know where to stop, you will be able to last. |
pi dao zhi zai tian xia, |
Behaving like the Great Nature, you should have the vast capacity to receive the people like the river and the sea to receive well the water coming from the valleys. |
